Weight Rack
How much weight do I have to add to a rack of observer?

Somtimes I have an assistant so II using the rack space, I understand that this is not the same that free weight benching, but they said that about 40 pounds has a lift in it, which means he would have to add an extra 40 pounds for the appropriate amount of weight. Can anyone verify this or correct me. Yes, it's a Smith machine.

This depends on the make and model of the machine. I guess you're talking about the Smith machine. At my gym, is 15 pounds, and the old model is 25 pounds. Fortunately, the staff can tell you exactly. Never heard talk of a being 40 pounds. That means you have to put an extra 45 pound plate, a total of 4 (self-weight of 225) to the bank of 135. Does not sound good.
